SONIC Drive-In honored the team from 501 North Main Street in Gore, Oklahoma, with gold medals and the championship title in the 2020 DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES, the brand’s premier competition training program. The team competed against nearly 3,000 other drive-in teams across the country and surpassed the competition by showcasing impressive teamwork skills, and mastering guest and operational service.
“The Gore team has done a spectacular job in each of the trainings, quizzes and team-building exercises throughout the DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES competition,” said Kevin Knutson, Vice President of Training for SONIC. “Their energy, dedication and professionalism shined throughout every task and training obstacles, demonstrating the level of guest experience we strive for at SONIC.”

“The journey to winning the championship title in this year’s competition has been exhilarating and we are excited to take home the gold medal,” said Joe Calderon, area supervisor for the Gore Drive-In. “We are proud to lead by example and this collective victory is a testament to the dedication our team put forth in the competition. Through the program, we’ve strengthened our team bond and proficiency in each training module to positively impact our drive-in’s operations as well as the dining experience we offer guests in our community.”
The runner-up drive-ins in this year’s DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES are the teams at 9505 Socorro Avenue in El Paso, Texas and 987 North Gilbert Road in Gilbert, Ariz., who were awarded silver and bronze medals, respectively. Additionally, SONIC presented gold, silver and bronze medals to each of the top three team members in their respective station roles.

For the last nine months, Sonic Drive-In has put thousands of drive-in crews from across the country through a series of trainings, quizzes, and challenging team and individual competitions in search of the Final 12 crews to compete in this year’s 2017 DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES. The Games is an intense national training competition that inspires friendly competition among crew members and encourages team building at the drive-in level.
The Final 12 will embark on a VIP trip to Denver to compete at the 2017 National Finals held during the annual Sonic National Convention in October. In addition to the competition, crew members will have the opportunity to meet with SONIC’s executive team, as well as enjoy the daily entertainment the convention provides.
“The DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES are an excellent training tool we’ve developed to motivate our crew members and give Sonic the opportunity to recognize participants on an individual level,” says Diane Prem, vice president of operation services at Sonic. “We continue to be impressed by the quality of our crews and their dedication to giving 110 percent during the DR PEPPER SONIC GAMES. The Final 12 are a diverse group of individuals from around the country who represent our brand’s unique culture.'
From a field of 2,870 crews representing every corner of the country, the Final 12 earned their spot in the last leg of the competition by excelling above and beyond their peers in the fields of customer service and on-site training.
